Since I liked the other Yoshida films, that I've watched before, I went into this not knowing what to expect. Title and poster look like a quite normal Japanese movie and it starts quite nice: a middle aged guy and a younger girl meet at a party, she's a struggling youtuber and he helps her to get a little bit better with her videos and slowly builds builds up a bit more popularity. But while Yoshida's last two movies were pretty straight forward dramas, this takes a bit more of the Himeanole route and takes a darker turn, without forgetting that it's supposed to be a comedy (it just becomes way darker). Therefore it's a really nasty beast, but I…

It's a movie that made me feel very uncomfortable after watching it!!!Wow...
There are only a few direct violent expressions at the end.
But it's really uncomfortable.Anxiety remains.I recommend you watch it when you're mentally healthy!
I don't hate movies like this!
But I can't watch it again!I would like to recommend it to elementary school students who yearn for youtuber.

Feel good and warm with the loveliness of an innocent girl with a good man and the cooperation in producing content with being a YouTuber.
...That's all an illusion!Keisuke Yoshida, you hit me again.

A rather singular tale of love and hate unfolds between a hypocrite and opportunistic YouTuber and her emotionally unstable assistant. Despite a slow start that could make you think of the most trivial romantic comedies, the narrative takes an intriguing turn in the middle, offering a fresh perspective on success stories and relationships based on mutual interest. Unfortunately, the resolution is confusing and all over the place, lining up impactful moments that only add up to the sense of incompleteness of the film. A wasted opportunity.

God Wants Paypack embodied all that is good and bad in director Keisuke Yoshida's films. The excellent and untypical movie makes sharp observations of human nature and the social commentary hits it mark, but the ending felt unnecessary bleak.
